A Dream Home on the River — Jay and Sherry Couron’s Adair Home Story

4 min read

There’s a special sense of accomplishment that comes with building a custom home; especially one that reflects your style, fits your lifestyle, and feels unmistakably yours the moment you walk through the front door. For Jay and Sherry Couron, that accomplishment sits above a pristine river—the centerpiece of their property.

Jay and Sherry Couron have called Roseburg, Oregon home for 26 years, and when they decided to build their dream home, they didn’t want something cookie-cutter. They wanted a place that would capture the beauty around them—especially the views.

“We love to spend time on the river, which is why we built a home here. The last home we lived in was for 25 years and it was a house built in 1909. So, this is a big jump going to a new custom home.”

The Couron’s new 2,692 sq. ft. home was designed to showcase the riverfront location at its best. Their home includes 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, and with thoughtful planning throughout, every bedroom features a walk-in closet—an everyday comfort that makes the home feel practical as well as special.

Custom Built from Plans to Finishes

What Jay and Sherry valued most was the ability to customize their home from the very beginning. From the plans all the way through the final finishes, they felt involved in every meaningful decision.

“Everybody kept saying, ‘Build your dream home,’ and so, we did,” says Sherry.

“The custom builders around here were just really expensive,” Jerry adds, “and they seemed to be short on labor and turn times were slow. They expressed that there was one plan, no modifications. This is what you get. We didn't want that.”

Instead, the Couron’s wanted a home that fit the way they lived—room to room, day to day. “We liked Adair's floor plans, but they just weren't quite right,” says Sherry. “So, we actually took one of their floor plans and cut it all up, taped it together and said to them, ’This is what we want!’”

Of course, these modifications were absolutely doable—and so, a brand new, one-of-a-kind home was designed specifically for the Couron’s.

Inside the Choices

The Couron’s highlighted the advantage of using Adair Homes’ Design Studio. According to them, it made decision-making simpler and far more enjoyable. Instead of staring at endless options, they found the choices to be easy, thoughtfully organized, and professionally selected to complement one another.

“One of the things we liked was limited choices,” says Sherry. “With Adair, they have a selection of finishes in their design showroom and you could put samples next to each other.” Adair’s Design Studio provided a comprehensive experience—helping everything work together cohesively, without the stress that can sometimes come with planning a custom build.

“Within the choices they had,” says Sherry, “we liked something in everything.”

Designed to Highlight the Views

One of the most distinctive features of the Couron’s home is where it was built. Jay and Sherry wanted to bring their dream home directly to the river, turning the surrounding landscape into a daily highlight rather than something you only experience occasionally.

That vision is reflected throughout the home, but especially in their window package. Jay and Sherry customized the window selections specifically to take full advantage of the outstanding views from every angle that mattered most.

“With Adair, you have options to upgrade. Our friends told us to upgrade things that you can't do in the future. The windows were one thing we knew we just needed to do,” says Jay. “It makes the house, I think.”

The result is a home that feels connected to the natural beauty outside—bright, scenic, and visually impressive in a way that only a riverfront setting can provide. From sunrise to evening views, the landscape becomes part of the living experience.

A House That Feels Like Home

When people build custom homes, they often talk about “curb appeal” or “square footage.” But for Jay and Sherry, the real win is that the home fits who they are. The layout is practical, the comfort is built in, and the finishes and features all align with the lifestyle they envisioned.

With every step of the process designed to make customization manageable and meaningful, the Couron’s ended up with a home they truly wanted—beautifully crafted, professionally supported, and perfectly positioned to enjoy what Roseburg’s river country offers.

If you’ve been dreaming about building your own custom home, the Couron’s story offers an encouraging reminder: a dream home doesn’t have to stay only in your imagination. With the right team and a thoughtful process, you can turn your vision into something real.

Jay and Sherry Couron’s experience with Adair Homes shows what’s possible when you can personalize the details, simplify the decisions, and build with confidence—especially when the goal is to create a home that reflects your priorities and celebrates the setting you love.

“Would we build a custom home again? Yes, we would,” says Jay. Sherry agrees. “And we would use Adair again.”

For those interested in building a custom home in Roseburg, Oregon, Adair Homes is certainly worth exploring. After all, your dream home should feel like a true reflection of you—inside, outside, and everywhere the views take you.
