To the best knowledge of historians, the word Minidoka is Shoshone in origin, and means “broad expanse”, which makes sense considering that this area is located in the Snake River Plain of Idaho’s Magic Valley. The county is divided between large tracts of irrigated farmland and black lava beds. Located on the route of early pioneers heading West, Minidoka County is full of colorful historical figures and homestead stories all of which can be learned in the Minidoka County Historical Society Museum located in Rupert, Idaho. Today, land in Minidoka County is affordable and available—whether you want acreage, or property in the communities of Paul, Rupert, or Heyburn. The city of Heyburn, located on I-84, has seen a recent economic boost with manufacturing and food processing businesses opening up and creating jobs for thousands of residents.
